Well, I ripped her performance during the halftime of the AFC Championship game
and now to be fair, I must give credit where it's due.

Sheryl Crow played a show in honor of her 40th birthday at the El Rey Theater,
a tiny venue here in LA.  Damn fine show.  It was unbilled at the club, the
billboard simply said "Birthday Party".  Tickets had been distributed in
advance mainly via invite and the Sheryl Crow fan club and were will call only
(thanks to my special blonde friend who always makes sure I know what I need to
know).  

The show included major guest appearances by Don Henley, Bonnie Raitt, Dwight
Yoakam and Gwyneth Paltrow (she played on 4 or 5 songs and was excellent).
Dwight Yoakam was the highlight IMO doing great versions of I Want You To Want
Me and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.  He was fantastic.  Don Henley did a
really nice duet with Sheryl on Love Hurts.   He also did the Allman Brothers'
Midnight Rider with Sheryl and Bonnie.  The two hour set was mainly covers and
songs from the new album, which sounds pretty solid from what was played
tonight.  I think the only hits that were played were My Favorite Mistake
(which along with If It Makes You Happy are my two favorites from her catalog
so I was glad to hear that one) and Everyday Is A Winding Road.  My Favorite
Mistake was the first song that Gwyneth played on and they sounded really nice
together.  And they looked pretty damn good too. :)

I wouldn't call myself a huge fan but I own all three of her studio albums and
based on what I heard tonight, I'll pick up the upcoming album.

you are one lucky man.
i saw sheryl crow do most everything from the globe sessions on the lilith tour.
it was a most amazing thing.
by the third song, my favorite mistake, she had everyone on their feet.
between her and sarah, it was one of the best shows i have ever seen.
and a most amazing summer night in nashville.
by playing on a song, does that mean Gwyneth actually played guitar,
or just sang backup?
somehow, i have a hard time believing her appeal was audio....

If you really love Sheryl Crow you need to check her out in STUFF magazine this
month. She did a skimpy outfit pictorial for her 40th birthday.

Anyone else see Sheryl Crow on that new musicians interview show on Bravo this
week?  It premiered Monday night.  I thought it was great.  The interview was
actually really interesting and Crow played about four full songs solo acoustic
and on the piano.

She sings.  And they sounded great together.

I remember when Sheryl Crow's first record came out, and I really enjoyed that,
but I kind of lost track of her after that.  Then, I think it was June 1999,
she did a set during Eric Clapton's benefit show at Madison Square Garden and I
was really moved.  That sold me - next album or tour, I'm there.
